Cornhole Rules

Our 2018 winter season will consist of the following:

A) Six week season plus playoffs. All games are Sundays starting February 11th and ending March 18th. The playoffs will take place on Sunday, March 25th. Teams will either play at 12pm or 1:30PM. All league games will be at Katch Astoria (located at 31-19 Newtown Ave.)
B) Teams of up to 7, with a team minimum of 4.

I. The basics
A) Matches: Each team will play one other team each week. The schedule is located on the website.
B) Teams: We have twelve teams for the 2018 winter season. We have split the league into two divisions. Each division consists of six teams.
C) Schedule: Each team plays the other five teams in their division. Week six will be an interrelate week, with teams matched up against a team from the other division.
D) Start times: All teams will be scheduled for either 12:00PM or 1:30PM. Times/opponents are listed on the schedule.
E) Location: ALL games will be played in the back room of Katch Astoria. Katch will put out food each week for league players. We will also have our own waitress in the back room.
F) Board assignments: We will have three cornhole games in the back room of Katch during each time period. Board assignments are listed on the schedule.

II. How to Play
A) Boards will be set up directly facing each other with 25 feet between the front edge of each board.
B) Each game will be played with two players.
C) The home team gets to pick which side of the board they get to throw from in sets 1 and 3. The away team makes the selection in set 2. After the decision is made, your partners pitching box will be directly across.
D) The Home team in sets 1 and 3 gets to decide if they want to throw first or second. They may choose which player throws first.
E) Scoring and points-After all bags have been thrown, a bag remaining on the board is worth 1 point. A bag that went in the hole is worth 3 points. Add up how many points you earned and compare them to your opponents. We will be using CANCELLATION SCORING. Thus, equal points cancel each other out so that only one team can score per round. EX: Team ! thrower scored 5 points. Team 2 thrower scored 3 points. The score for that round is 2-0 Team 1.

III. Weekly Format
A) All league matches will consist of three sets. Each set will be decided by a best of three games. (the first team to win two games wins the set) Each game is up to 15 points, cancellation scoring. There is no penalty for going over. All three sets are to be played each week. If teams are tied and a team hits 15 in a round, the game is not complete until the round is over. Ex: two teams have 13 points. On throw 1, Team A scores three points on their first throw. The game is not over until all bags have been thrown.
B) Scoresheets-all teams will receive a scoresheet each week. Captains exchange the scoresheets prior to each set to announce who is playing.
C) Scorekeeping-all teams are required to keep score. We will have table scoreboards for each game of cornhole. One player from each team is responsible for keeping an eye on the score, with the score announced after each round and updated on the scoreboard. In the event of a dispute, a league official will be present to arbitrate any issues that may arise in the realm of scoring.
D) Illegal throwing-an illegally thrown bag will be removed from the board and no points will count for that throw. Examples of illegally thrown bags include: throwing outside the pitchers box; (which is throwing with your foot in front of the board) where the bag is touching the ground or another apparatus or bags that bounce.
E) Standings: The standings will be reflective of the total number of sets won. AT most, a team can win 3 sets in one week. In the event of a tie, the first tiebreaker is head to head
F) Playoffs: The playoffs will take place on March 25th. It will be the top 4 teams from each division. The format of the playoff matchups will be announced shortly.

IV. Sportsmanship
A) All Astoria Social players are expected to maintain good sportsmanship to their opponents, teammates, league officials and employees of Katch. If an individual fails to adhere to this rule, they may face ejection, suspension or removal from the league, after a league review by head officials.
