Week 04 Recaps!

Week 04 | Summer 2017

Booze on First
Pitch Slap
Bad News Beers

Another weekend with no interruptions! We are now at the midway point for the summer season. With only a few weeks remaining, teams are jockeying for position in our two divisions. Who came out on top this past weekend?

Battle of the Undefeated
A much better name than the “Loot Train Attack.” (Seriously, did they really give that name thought?) Anyways, our marquee matchup this week involved the undefeated Bad News Beers and the always dangerous (and undefeated) Astros. Normally we mention the dangerous (and scary) Astros offense in these newsletters. This week, it was all about the D. Defense. The Astros were able to hold the BNB scoreless for six of the seven innings as they continued their early season winning streak with a 9-1 win. The BNB took out their frustrations with a 17-2 victory over the Soft Balls in game two of their double header.

Upset Special
The Beer View Mirrors defeated our defending champions the Outkasts by a score of 15-10. The Outkasts made in close in the late innings by putting together a five run rally in the seventh. The win moves the BVM over the .500 mark.

Close Call
The Upper Deckers had a scare against Booze on First Sunday morning, holding on for a 5-4 win. Both teams played extremely well. Both pitchers kept the game moving with very few walks or even 3 ball counts. The Upper Deckers improve to 4-1 with the win and sit in first place midway through the summer campaign. In their second game, Booze on First defeated I’d Hit That by the score of 4-1. Six RA’s against two spring playoffs teams is very impressive! Good job Tanner! And Juan Snow!

Fast Paced Game
Just the Foul Tip defeated the Recess Renegades by the score of 13-4. The Renegades scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. But the JTFT offense responded with a nine spot in the top of the seventh to seal the victory. The game was one of the quickest games of the season.

Long Game
The Recess Renegades defeated the Soft Balls by the score of 21-13. There was a lot of offense in this game, as it was close through the midway point. The Renegades sported an impressive lineup, which included a mammoth HR by Owen D.

QueensBridge Games
Our two non-whitey games on Saturday both ended in 11-4 scores! Designated Drinkers came out with the win against Got the Runs, and Pitch Slap pulled off a win against Gold Label with only 9 on the field. Oscar P. of Pitch Slap, had to say this about his game:

“Well, I know this may sound cliche, but it really was a team effort. From the top of the line up to the bottom, everyone contributed whether it was playing the field or swinging the bat. I did have two plays that I really enjoyed watching, the first was Dana H., full swing bunt that brought a crucial insurance run while the game was still close. The second was the final out of the game. It was a towering shot hit to dead center, our center fielder Casey W. had to cover a lot a ground, but was able to chase it down for a flashy catch. We’re hoping to carry this momentum from this game into next week, and hopefully into the playoffs.”
