Week 3 Recaps!
Week 03 | Spring 2018
Game of the Week
The bike tour briefly delayed the start of the Astros/Recess Renegades game early Sunday morning. Fortunately, all players were able to get to Whitey as we had ourselves an exciting nine inning game. Down 5-4 in the third, the Astros capitalized on their powerful top of the lineup, scoring four runs and taking an 8-5 lead. The Renegades were able to keep the Astros off the scoreboard over the next three innings, taking a two run lead into the bottom of the seventh. After retiring the first two batters, the Astros strung together four consecutive hits, tying the game at 10. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the ninth, when yet again the Astros put together a two out rally to escape with an 11-10 win. This was the second extra inning game of the season for the Renegades, who have shown the league that they can play with any team! They also are a major factor in the social points competition.
Both Rob T and Mario E were on point Saturday night, keeping the strikes coming with some highly accurate pitching. We even had a few immaculate innings (3 pitch innings) which make this ump extremely happy.
Longtime Astoria Social (and Astoria Plays️️) league member Chris S had an extremely effective day both in the field and at the plate. The Dutches were able to keep the BNB off the board with a 10-0 win.
Shades of Summer
A few seasons ago, I’d Hit That went undefeated in the regular season. Could this season be a repeat of that impressive feat? They defeated JTFT by the score of 15-5. The ‘Tip continue to struggle out of the gate, posting back to back double digit losses. They look to rebound next Sunday.
Chicks Dig the Long Ball
League masher Rob D capped off an impressive day at the plate with a long home run. The Beer View Mirrors defeated the Brew Crew 19-3.
New World Outlast
The SOPs were a bit short handed, yet played some inspired ball as they traded runs with the mighty Outkasts. The game was close in the late innings, as the Outkasts were up by just one run in the sixth inning. They would string together some hits, scoring four in the bottom of the sixth and leaving with a 15-10 win.
Whoomp There it is!!!
The tag team of Allie and Tommy kept Got the Runs in control this past Saturday with seven innings of effective pitching. Got the Runs improve to 2-1 with the football final of 14-7. Fun fact: Both of them come out to current pro wrestling theme songs, as Tommy walks up to Daniel Bryan’s theme and Allie walks up to “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (and Frankie’s walk up) entrance song, “Bad Reputation.”
Rich S hit a shot out of Whitey on Sunday afternoon, helping the Gold Label win their second game of the season, 14-4. They face off with the Upper Deckers next weekend.

Pitchslap @ Alaskan Spear Throwers
“What a great game today, everybody came through. We didn’t miss Jeremy. No, we actually missed Jeremey. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him. T’s and P’s. Everybody connected and we had great communication from the outfield all the way to the infield. We gave a 110 percent. We’re 3-0 now we’re ready for next week. Thank you Jesus and Moses.” Jordan B., Spear Throwers
